抹面砂浆的使用应根据建筑物的立面尺寸精度和墙体结构形式决定。例如，砖结构墙体因为块体之间灰缝多，块体尺寸偏差大，一般就采用普通抹灰砂浆；钢筋混凝土结构，如果模板尺寸精度偏差大或混凝土墙板与梁断面尺寸不一致，那么也必须作普通抹灰；如果钢筋混凝土结构基层尺寸精度偏差小，那么就可采用薄层砂浆抹灰。
